ST Engineering has recently unveiled its new shipyard located at 55 Gul Road in Singapore, replacing its Tuas Yard which will expire in 2024. The Gul Yard, acquired for S$95 million, is double the size of the Tuas Yard and is equipped to handle larger and more complex projects. This new facility will allow ST Engineering to venture into new market segments, including offshore renewables projects, oil and gas support vessels, and refits and upgrades.
The Gul Yard features state-of-the-art technologies aimed at enhancing efficiency and safety. These include AI-driven automation for project management, predictive maintenance algorithms to prevent downtime, digital twin technology for simulation and monitoring, and 5G infrastructure for fast and reliable connectivity. Enhanced worker safety measures are also in place, such as AGIL Vision security robots, drones for monitoring hazardous areas, and automated guided vehicles for material transport.
In addition to technological advancements, the shipyard is also focused on sustainability initiatives. Electric vehicles like AGVs and buggies will reduce emissions, while a clean energy transition plan aims to implement sources like ammonia, hydrogen, and biofuels by 2034. The facility will also optimize resources through efficient sorting and recycling practices to minimize waste. Overall, the new Gul Yard represents a significant step forward for ST Engineering in expanding its capabilities and ensuring a sustainable future in the maritime industry.
