DeepOcean has revealed new details about a long-term charter agreement for a battery-powered multi-purpose supply vessel (MPSV) with Norwegian offshore services provider Island Offshore. The vessel, Island condor, will be converted into a modern construction support vessel with a 150-tonne crane, 2 Schilling HD x WROV systems, and the ability to provide underwater inspection, maintenance, and repair services. It will also undergo extensive modifications including lengthening, installation of ROV hangars, expansion of the superstructure, upgrades to the DP system, and the addition of a large battery pack and an active front-end system. The charter agreement is set to begin in the third quarter of 2024.
The decision to convert an existing vessel and add battery power is part of DeepOcean’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint in offshore operations. The company’s CEO, Øyvind Mikaelsen, emphasized the importance of working with shipowners who can support these environmental efforts. The company sees the addition of the MPSV as a way to meet the increased demand for their underwater services and create added value for operators in the offshore energy sector.
The renovation of the Island condor into a modern construction support vessel will allow DeepOcean to offer a wider range of services, including underwater work, to operators of offshore energy infrastructure. The company is focused on expanding its fleet of chartered vessels to meet the growing demand for its services.
