Holland America Line marked the launch of its 2025 season from Rotterdam with the arrival of the Nieuw Statendam. This event also saw the ship utilizing the port’s shore power system for the first time, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability. Holland America Line’s vice president of international sales and marketing, Nico Bleichrodt, expressed excitement about having two ships homeporting in Rotterdam and commended the port team for their efforts in implementing the shore power project.
The use of the port’s high voltage shore connection system by Holland America Line ships is expected to result in significant fuel and CO2 emissions savings. Additionally, Rotterdam will continue to use low carbon intensity biofuel this summer, following a successful test in 2024 which yielded a substantial decrease in lifecycle CO2 emissions. Cruise Port Rotterdam’s general manager, Nick Hoogeweij, emphasized the long-standing partnership with Holland America Line and the economic impact of having two ships homeporting in Rotterdam.
The 2025 season will see Holland America Line offering voyages to various destinations in Europe aboard Nieuw Statendam and Rotterdam. Guests will have the opportunity to explore Scandinavia, Iceland, the Baltics, Central Europe, the British Isles, the Canary Isles, and the Mediterranean on voyages ranging from seven to 27 days. Holland America Line will also collaborate with Dutch vendors to provision its ships, supporting local businesses in Rotterdam and throughout the Netherlands.
