Viking Line has commenced operations of its two Ro-Ro vessels, Viking Glory and Viking Grace, using bio-LNG. This initiative aligns with Gasum’s FuelEU Maritime (FEUM) pooling service, following a letter of intent signed in late 2024 aimed at enhancing their collaboration.

The vessels operate daily between Turku, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden, transporting both cargo and passengers. This established route ensures a consistent compliance generation for the pooling service, which has seen increased demand. Jacob Granqvist, Gasum’s Vice President of Maritime, emphasized the importance of collaboration with trusted partners like Viking Line to meet this rising need and expand service offerings to more shipowners.

Jan Hanses, CEO of Viking Line, highlighted the company’s commitment to leading the transition to a fossil-free maritime future. The introduction of bio-LNG will increase their biofuel usage to 50%, significantly reducing emissions on the Turku-Stockholm route. Viking Line has been providing biogas options for passengers and cargo for two years and is eager to support the broader European maritime industry in its emission reduction efforts.
