Andhra Pradesh was represented by Minister BC Janardhan Reddy at the fourth National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC) meeting in Delhi, which included key figures like Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Trade Union, Transport & Autobahn, and other high-ranking officials from coastal states. Minister Reddy highlighted the central government’s role in uniting coastal states for the growth of the Indian maritime industry, praising Prime Minister Modi’s infrastructure development efforts that have positioned India as a strong maritime power globally.
Minister Janardhan Reddy emphasized Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to the Indian Maritime Center’s development, aiming to increase the state’s GDP to $1 billion and establish itself as a significant international marine hub under the Swarna Andhra @ 2047 project. The state is investing billions of rupees in developing Greenfield ports and fishing ports, along with establishing a Skill Development Center in Ramayapatnam to train maritime industry specialists. Reddy also sought central government support to finance projects under the Sagarmala program for the state’s maritime sector development.
In addition to participating in the NSAC meeting, Minister Janardhan Reddy presented a memorandum to Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, advocating for the establishment of a harbor and shipbuilding facility in the Motupalli-Pedaganjam district in Bapatla. This initiative is expected to boost regional development and create employment opportunities. Minister Reddy also engaged in discussions with Goa and Karnataka ministers on port development efforts in their states. Key officials from Andhra Pradesh, including the investment and infrastructure secretary, CEO of AP Maritime, and CEO of the Maritime Board, were also present at the event. Andhra Pradesh’s vision to become a major global maritime center by 2047 was highlighted in the Maritime Gateway news portal.
