ASEAN and India, during a meeting in Jakarta on February 13, underscored maritime cooperation as a key priority, focusing on sea safety, environmental protection, connectivity, and adherence to international law in the Indo-Pacific. The Philippines, in its role as ASEAN chair, co-led the 26th ASEAN-India Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting, emphasizing its commitment to strengthening dialogue with India.

Both parties announced 2026 as the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation, aimed at enhancing collaboration in maritime safety, environmental initiatives, sustainable economies, and governance capacity. This initiative reflects their shared dedication to upholding international law, particularly the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and promoting freedom of navigation in the region.
