Authorities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have issued a cyclone warning for all ports due to a developing cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, expected to intensify from Sunday evening. Heavy rainfall and rough sea conditions are forecasted through Monday, prompting significant precautions. A ‘Local Cautionary Signal No. 3’ has been raised at all ports, urging residents, tourists, and maritime operators to heed the warning.
To ensure safety, local authorities have prohibited fishing vessels, small boats, trawlers, and ships from entering the sea across South Andaman, North and Middle Andaman, and Nicobar districts until at least Monday. A senior official from the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) emphasized the importance of passenger and vessel safety, advising tourists to plan their journeys accordingly.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rainfall of 7 to 11 centimeters in isolated areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30–40 km/h. The sea is expected to be rough, and the situation will be monitored closely. The administration is coordinating with disaster response agencies to mitigate risks, urging tourists to stay indoors and follow official directives.
