Centurion University’s School of Maritime Studies (SoMS) has achieved a significant milestone by being designated a Global Centre of Excellence, making it the first institution in Southeast Asia and only the second worldwide to receive this honor from leading maritime organizations. This prestigious recognition is a collaborative initiative of The Nautical Institute (NI) and The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), which are considered the gold standard in nautical science and marine engineering.

The inauguration of this historic status was officiated by Shri Shantanu Thakur, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways (Govt. of India). This accreditation not only underscores India’s long-standing role as a supplier of maritime labor but also marks its evolution into a global center for high-quality education and research in maritime studies. The “Certificate of Excellence” is awarded to institutions that exemplify outstanding standards in training future maritime leaders.
