Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) recently delivered a versatile vessel, MS Heinz, to HS Schiffahrts UG & Co KG in Germany. This milestone event, which occurred on January 12, represents the first delivery in the HS EcoFreighter series being developed for the German shipping firm.

The vessel handover took place during a virtual ceremony, where Dr. S. Harikrishnan, CSL’s Director of Operations, and Heinz Josef Schepers from HS Schiffahrts signed the required documents on behalf of their companies. The ceremony included participation from senior executives from both organizations, underscoring the significance of this accomplishment.

Built at CSL’s facility in Kochi, the MS Heinz was designed by Groot Ship Design in the Netherlands and has a deadweight tonnage of 7,000 DWT. It is engineered to carry various cargo types, including project loads, heavy machinery, containers, and hazardous materials, showcasing its operational versatility.

The contract for this project includes eight vessels, each valued at approximately ₹110 crore, with the steel-cutting ceremony signaling the start of construction taking place in March 2023. CSL views this delivery as a crucial step in expanding its presence in the global commercial shipbuilding industry, reporting an order book of ₹21,100 crore as of June 30, 2023, with a notable shift in orders from the Indian Navy.
