Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), marking a pivotal moment for India’s maritime industry. This partnership was announced at the ‘Samudra se Samriddhi – Transforming India’s Maritime Sector’ event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The MoU was formalized in the presence of prominent figures, including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of State Shantanu Thakur, along with industry leaders such as Jung Changin from Hyundai and CSL’s Madhu S Nair. This collaboration aims to combine CSL’s robust infrastructure and local expertise with HD KSOE’s advanced technology, enhancing India’s shipbuilding capabilities.
Plans under this alliance include the use of CSL’s new dry dock for the construction of large vessels, complemented by a Block Fabrication Facility in Kochi. This initiative is projected to generate around 2,000 direct jobs and numerous indirect employment opportunities. The partnership aligns with national strategies like Maritime India Vision 2030, which seeks to establish India as a global leader in shipbuilding.
