Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) and Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) have established a consortium through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing India’s shipbuilding capabilities. The agreement was formalized in Kolkata on Monday and signifies a collaborative effort to bolster the nation’s maritime infrastructure.
The partnership will focus on constructing maritime platforms, thereby supporting the development of operational capabilities within India’s naval sector. Both companies emphasize that their collaboration will promote technological self-reliance, aligning with the country’s broader shipbuilding objectives.
The MoU was signed by Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.), Director of Shipbuilding at GRSE, and Capt Ganti Venkateswarlu, IN (Retd.), Officiating Chairman and Managing Director at HSL. Senior officials from both organizations were present during the signing, underscoring the significance of this alliance.
By leveraging the strengths of both shipyards, GRSE and HSL aim to contribute to the national goal of expanding indigenous shipbuilding capacity, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing India’s maritime industry. This initiative reflects a commitment to advancing the country’s self-sufficiency in maritime defense and commercial shipbuilding.
