Authorities in Palghar district have sanctioned compensation exceeding ₹2 crore per hectare for agricultural land acquired for the Vadhvan Port Project in Maharashtra. This initiative aims to bolster infrastructure development for the ambitious greenfield port, which is essential for enhancing road and rail connectivity.
Landowners impacted by the acquisition will receive double the fixed market value along with a 100% solatium. Additionally, a 12% interest will be applicable from August 29, 2024. In Palghar taluka, the base agricultural rates are set at ₹62.50 lakh per hectare, which could total approximately ₹2.5 crore after accounting for additional payments. In contrast, Dahanu taluka features higher valuations, with base rates in villages like Varor and Bawde ranging from ₹1.16 to ₹1.22 crore, potentially escalating to ₹4.88 crore per hectare. Separate assessments will also consider structures, trees, and water sources on the land.
This acquisition process is guided by a Central Government notification under the National Highways Act, 1956, affecting 24 villages across Palghar and Dahanu talukas. District Collector Indu Rani Jakhar stressed the importance of transparency and efficiency, urging landowners to submit necessary documents within 60 days. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the compensation awards.
The ₹76,220 crore Vadhvan Port, developed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board, aims to position itself among the world’s top ten ports as a deep-draft facility. The focus on land acquisition is crucial for enhancing India’s maritime infrastructure and connectivity.
