The Principal District and Sessions Court in Navsari has sentenced Dineshbhai Babubhai Ganvit, a junior clerk at the Gujarat Maritime Board’s Bilimora Port office, to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a ₹10,000 fine for bribery. This case was initiated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

The case originated in 2010 when Hasmukhbhai Chhaganbhai Tandel, a boat operator from Gandevi, sought official permission to fish in the Mumbai seas. Ganvit allegedly demanded a ₹5,000 bribe to issue the necessary permit.

Refusing to comply, Tandel reported the matter to the ACB, which conducted a sting operation at the Bilimora Port office. Ganvit was caught in the act of soliciting and accepting the bribe, leading to the registration of a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
