Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) recently achieved two key milestones in its 60-ton Bollard Pull (BP) Tug construction program for the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA). These milestones include the keel laying of the first tug and the signing of a contract for a second vessel, highlighting the enduring partnership between HSL and VPA. The new tugs are designed to align with the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to modernize VPA’s fleet and support future port expansion amid increasing maritime traffic.

Each tug, measuring 32.5 meters in length with a 60-ton bollard pull capacity, is engineered to enhance operational safety and efficiency at the port. The modern vessels are expected to facilitate quicker vessel maneuvering and reduce turnaround times, ultimately boosting productivity at Visakhapatnam Port. Dr. Madhaiyaan Angamuthu, Chairperson of VPA, emphasized the importance of timely delivery and quality workmanship in building institutional trust, expressing confidence in HSL’s capabilities.
