The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has inaugurated a new bridge in Vizhinjam Harbor, Kerala, aimed at enhancing coastal security along India’s southwestern coast. The facility, opened by ICG General Director Paramesh Sivamani, is part of a broader initiative to strengthen regional safety measures.
Sivamani highlighted the facility’s strategic significance, emphasizing its role in improving response times for coastal monitoring, fishing protection, search and rescue operations, and anti-smuggling efforts. The modern 76.7-meter bridge allows for quicker deployment of ICG vessels, enhancing mission readiness.
Located near the Vizhinjam International Container Transshipment Deepwater Port and just ten nautical miles from key international shipping lanes, the new ICG base is set to bolster maritime safety. The inauguration ceremony was attended by General Inspector Bhisham Sharma, Commander of ICG Region (West), along with other senior civil officials.
This recent development marks an important milestone in coastal safety enhancements for the region, showcasing the ICG’s commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
