Bhubaneswar, October 18, 2025 — The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), a prestigious UK-based professional body, has inaugurated its India Branch at Mayfair Lagoon, Bhubaneswar. This development signifies a significant step in enhancing maritime collaboration between India and the UK. The event gathered maritime leaders, academics, and policymakers, highlighting a renewed commitment to professional excellence and sustainability in the maritime sector.
During the event, Mr. Andrew Fleming, Deputy High Commissioner of the UK for East and Northeast India, praised Odisha’s rich maritime heritage, referencing Kalinga’s historical significance as a maritime civilization. He emphasized that Bhubaneswar is strategically positioned to reclaim this legacy, supported by modern ports and a talented workforce ready to innovate in maritime fields. He commended IMarEST for selecting Bhubaneswar as its Indian headquarters, viewing it as a pivotal location for India’s maritime resurgence.
Shri Deependra Singh Bisen, Deputy Director General of Shipping for the Government of India, outlined India’s ambitious maritime roadmap under the Maritime India Vision 2030. He emphasized the focus on training and digital innovation to position India among the top three maritime nations by 2047. The event featured insights from various industry leaders, reaffirming IMarEST’s commitment to advancing maritime science and collaboration.
