India-Japan Summit: Modi Stresses Quad’s Role in Maritime and Disaster Management

During his visit to Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the Quad’s role in providing practical solutions for maritime security and disaster relief. Speaking to Yomiuri Shimbun at the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, he highlighted the bloc’s contributions to humanitarian assistance and technology, asserting that it has evolved into a “force for global good” over the past two decades. Modi noted that the Quad—comprising India, Japan, the US, and Australia—is uniquely positioned to deliver tangible benefits to the Indo-Pacific, especially during crises.

Modi also underscored the importance of the India-Japan partnership as a pillar of regional stability, citing increasing collaboration in semiconductors, defense, and space exploration, including the LUPEX lunar mission. He described the relationship as one that spans innovation, security, and prosperity, characterizing the summit with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba as pivotal for charting the future of bilateral ties.
