The Indian Lighthouse Festival 3.0 recently concluded in Visakhapatnam, emphasizing maritime heritage, coastal culture, and lighthouse tourism. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal remarked that the festival has positioned Visakhapatnam as a representation of India’s coastal identity, underscoring the role of cultural engagement and infrastructure in enhancing maritime awareness and local economies.
During the valedictory session, Sonowal noted the festival’s success, highlighted by lively performances, local crafts, and food, which showcased India’s rich coastal traditions. Engaging families, youth, and entrepreneurs made the event inclusive and reflective of the diverse cultural landscape.
Significantly, Sonowal announced plans for Andhra Pradesh’s first Lighthouse Museum in Visakhapatnam, aimed at maritime education and tourism enhancement. This initiative complements government efforts to develop 100 lighthouses nationwide as tourist attractions, with 25 more slated for Andhra Pradesh. An MoU was signed for the museum’s construction at the Old Lighthouse area.
Additionally, Sonowal introduced initiatives for maritime safety and inland navigation, including new lighthouses on the Brahmaputra in Assam and the launch of various infrastructure projects at Visakhapatnam Port, reinforcing its role as a key maritime gateway on India’s eastern coast.
