Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL) has made history as the first port in India to engage in automobile transshipment operations. On August 27, 2025, the port successfully handled its inaugural shipment, discharging 550 cars from Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) at the General Cargo Berth. The vehicles, transported from Singapore, were stored at the GCB Transit Yard for further distribution.

These cars are set to be reloaded onto the vessel m.v. Marguerite Ace on August 29, destined for South Africa, Mauritius, and Tanzania. This marks a significant step in enhancing KPL’s operational capabilities and its appeal in the international shipping landscape.
