Maharashtra is set to transform its ferry services with the introduction of digital ticketing on over 35 routes, thanks to a collaboration between the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) and Billeasy. Officially launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on September 30, 2025, this initiative aims to enhance public transport accessibility and efficiency, allowing commuters to skip long queues for tickets.

The ticketing process is streamlined into four simple steps: first, users can message the MMB via WhatsApp or scan a QR code at the dock. Next, they select their desired route, followed by instant payment using various methods like UPI or credit cards. Finally, tickets are received on WhatsApp, which can be shown to operators when boarding.

Beyond ticketing, the WhatsApp channel functions as a comprehensive ferry assistant. It allows citizens to submit grievances, access real-time updates on their resolutions, and utilize the “Ask MMB” chatbot for instant answers and schedules. Additionally, the platform integrates 19 services under the Right to Service (RTS) Act, minimizing the need for physical visits to government offices.

The Maharashtra Maritime Board oversees the state’s ports and maritime activities, aiming to leverage its extensive coastline for economic growth. Billeasy, a pioneering fintech platform, focuses on creating seamless digital experiences in transit and retail, having previously launched India’s first WhatsApp-based metro e-ticketing in 2022.
