India’s Polestar Maritime Launches Construction of Two Advanced Tugs

The new tugs are set to feature advanced propulsion systems, including two 1,838kW low-sulphur diesel engines paired with 2,700mm controllable-pitch propellers sourced from Niigata. Additionally, they will be equipped with two Cummins auxiliary engines and two harbour generators, enhancing their operational efficiency.

These vessels are designed in accordance with the approved tug specifications established by the Indian Government as part of its “Make in India” initiative. They also adhere to the class regulations set forth by both the Indian Register of Shipping and the American Bureau of Shipping, ensuring compliance with international standards.

The latest additions to the Polestar Maritime fleet will be sister ships to the Konna Star, which was delivered by Udupi CSL in 2024. This alignment with previous models underscores a commitment to quality and reliability in maritime operations.
