The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has achieved a significant milestone with the berthing of the MSC Ivana, a container vessel with a draft of 16.35 meters, at PSA Mumbai’s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals (BMCT). This marks the deepest-draft vessel ever accommodated at JNPort, highlighting its enhanced capability to handle ultra-large container vessels (ULCVs).
Capt. Sudanshu Shekhar led the berthing operation, demonstrating effective coordination between JNPA’s marine team and PSA Mumbai. Officials emphasized that this accomplishment showcases JNPA’s commitment to improving operational efficiency, bolstering EXIM trade, and establishing India as a global maritime hub.
With continuous upgrades in infrastructure and technology at BMCT—the largest container terminal at the port—JNPA is attracting mainline services and minimizing vessel turnaround times. This progress aligns with India’s strategic aim to enhance maritime logistics and competitiveness in the global trade arena.
Industry experts believe this milestone elevates JNPA among a select group of Indian ports capable of accommodating deep-draft, high-capacity ships, further supporting the nation’s objectives in maritime expansion.
