Lloyd’s List Intelligence is set to establish a Centre of Excellence in Chennai, India, in November, marking one of its largest global offices, according to CEO Waqas Samad. This expansion aims to meet the soaring demand for maritime data and strengthen operations in a region pivotal to global trade.

The Chennai facility will generate over 200 jobs in data analysis and software development, playing a crucial role in managing over one billion maritime data points daily. Chennai, recognized as a rapidly growing tech hub and home to the Indian Maritime University, provides an ideal location, backed by support from the Tamil Nadu government.

Samad highlighted the significance of Asia-Pacific trade routes amidst increasing maritime risks due to geopolitical tensions and regulatory changes.
