Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Maritime Board (OMB) is positioning itself as a vital player in the State’s Blue Economy and maritime development. Principal Secretary Usha Padhee recently visited the new OMB office to review ongoing and future initiatives aimed at modernizing port infrastructure, enhancing maritime connectivity, and promoting coastal shipping along Odisha’s 480 km coastline.
During her visit, Padhee stressed the importance of integrated development in port-led industries, sustainable shipping practices, and skills training in the maritime sector. She stated, "The Odisha Maritime Board is poised to shape the State’s maritime future, driving investment and creating jobs while enhancing trade competitiveness."
Key focus areas discussed included developing existing ports, facilitating new projects, and expanding capacity. The board aims to promote marine tourism, fisheries, and renewable energy while ensuring environmentally friendly operations and climate resilience. Efforts to streamline clearances and attract private investments are also underway.
Padhee praised the OMB team for their proactive approach and encouraged innovative financing and global partnerships to establish Odisha as a maritime hub in Eastern India. With strategic planning and policy reforms, the OMB aims to transform Odisha into a maritime powerhouse.
