Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) has partnered with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to establish a Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Shipbuilding Technology on the CUSAT campus, backed by a ₹3.53 crore investment from CSL.
The centre aims to bridge academia and industry by enhancing skills, software development, and digitization in shipbuilding. It will feature advanced computing systems and cutting-edge marine software to facilitate research in areas such as Naval Architecture, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Officials highlighted that this initiative is designed to promote innovation in ship design and construction practices, while also advancing ship performance analysis. The collaboration is expected to bolster India’s capabilities in developing sustainable maritime technologies.
This strategic venture signifies a significant step toward modernizing India’s shipbuilding industry, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability and technological advancement.
