SMP Kolkata Reports 16% Surge in Cargo Handling

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMP Kolkata) recorded a 16.02% increase in cargo throughput from April to August 2025, handling 28.236 million metric tonnes (MMT), up from 24.337 MMT during the same period last year.

The Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) was the primary contributor, managing 20.625 MMT, marking a 13.23% rise from 18.216 MMT in the previous year. In contrast, the Kolkata Dock System (KDS) experienced significant growth of 24.35%, processing 7.611 MMT compared to 6.121 MMT in the same timeframe last year.

Chairman Rathendra Raman attributed this achievement to the dedication of the port’s officers, employees, and stakeholders. He emphasized SMP Kolkata’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and infrastructure, aiming to bolster its role in supporting India’s trade and economic development.
