The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is progressing with the development of Vadhvan Port in Taluka Dahanu, Maharashtra, following Cabinet approval. This major infrastructure project faced challenges from local associations seeking to halt its establishment, prompting legal proceedings before the Supreme Court of India.
On February 28, 2025, the Supreme Court dismissed the request for interim relief, allowing development work to continue as outlined in JNPA’s project schedule. The court noted that acquisition processes would remain subject to future orders related to the ongoing petitions.
Currently, there is no halt on Vadhvan Port’s development, and JNPA is fully committed to advancing the project. Unmesh Sharad Wagh, Chairperson of JNPA and CMD of Vadhvan Port Project Ltd., emphasized the importance of the Supreme Court’s decision, stating that the port symbolizes progress and aims to connect India’s western coast with global trade networks.
Wagh further expressed a commitment to balancing development with community welfare, ensuring that local residents benefit from the project. The Vadhvan Port Project is set to enhance India’s maritime capacity, drive regional development, and establish the nation as a prominent global logistics hub.
