Thootukudi’s VOC Port Sees Rapid Cargo Growth, Hits 20 Million Tonnes Early

In a landmark achievement for India’s maritime industry, V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOC Port) in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, reached a record cargo handling of 20 million tonnes on September 21, 2025. This milestone marks the fastest time that the port has ever achieved such a volume, reinforcing its significance as a key hub for international trade in South India.

The port’s performance this year showcases a total cargo throughput growth of 0.61%, alongside a notable 6.93% rise in container traffic compared to the previous year. These figures highlight VOC Port’s efficiency and rapid expansion in its operations.
