Two Indian LPG carriers, BW TYR and BW ELM, are en route to India after successfully navigating the Gulf region with a combined cargo of approximately 94,000 metric tonnes of LPG. BW TYR is expected to arrive in Mumbai on March 31, while BW ELM is heading to New Mangalore, anticipated to reach on April 1. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has confirmed that all necessary safety measures are in place for Indian vessels and seafarers in the Gulf, with no incidents reported in the last 24 hours.
Currently, 18 Indian-flagged vessels with 485 Indian seafarers are operating in the western Persian Gulf. The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) is actively monitoring the situation, collaborating with ship owners and Indian Missions. Their control room operates 24/7, having managed over 4,500 calls and nearly 9,000 emails since its activation, including 92 calls and 120 emails in the past day. DG Shipping has also facilitated the safe repatriation of over 942 Indian seafarers, with four returning in the last 24 hours.
Port operations across India remain stable, with no congestion reported. State Maritime Boards from various states have confirmed smooth operations. The Ministry of Ports and Shipping is working closely with the Ministry of External Affairs and maritime stakeholders to ensure the welfare of seafarers and uninterrupted maritime activities. Continuous outreach efforts are being made to the Indian community in the region, providing safety advisories and assistance as needed.
The Ministry is monitoring the situation in the Gulf and West Asia closely, prioritizing the safety and welfare of the Indian community. A special control room is operational to support Indian nationals and their families, maintaining regular communication with state authorities. Missions across the region are available around the clock, offering assistance to seafarers, students, and stranded nationals, including visa and logistical support.
