At the Sagarmala Convention in Visakhapatnam, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, declared that the maritime sector has matured and is now fully equipped to tackle any challenges. He emphasized Andhra Pradesh’s crucial role in India’s shipbuilding ambitions while addressing stakeholders and the public during the Visakhapatnam Port Authority event, which marked the foundation stone laying of several significant projects.

Among the newly launched initiatives are two 120-ton Harbour Mobile Cranes (HMCs) aimed at increasing port capacity by 3 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA), a Smart Video Surveillance Project valued at Rs 37.53 crore that incorporates AI and IoT technologies, and a Digital Health Card System for employees and their dependents. These developments are part of a broader strategy to enhance the maritime infrastructure in the region.

Sonowal also articulated the government’s vision of positioning India as a leading shipbuilding nation globally, outlining various initiatives designed to foster a robust maritime ecosystem across the country’s coastal states. He underscored the goal of achieving self-reliance in this sector, aligning with the aspirations of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Additionally, Sonowal praised Visakhapatnam for its commitment to women’s respect and safety, describing it as a hallmark of a civilized and advanced society.
