Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has achieved record freight throughput, reaching 82.62 million tons (MT) in the 2024-25 financial year, surpassing the previous year’s 81.09 MT. This growth is driven by a diverse range of raw materials, including crude oil, ores, and general freight. VPA’s container trade has also gained acclaim, recently rising in global container rankings from 122 to 19 thanks to improvements in terminal productivity and digitization.

Customer satisfaction is a key focus for VPA, underscored by their 24/7 operations and proactive problem-solving strategies. A recent initiative streamlined a shipment of 2,847 containers to Nepal, showcasing their responsiveness to logistical challenges. Their ongoing infrastructure upgrades, amounting to $18.01 million, aim to enhance capacity and efficiency, with plans to operate 15 berths under public-private partnerships by 2026.

Sustainability remains central to VPA’s operations as they commit to net-zero carbon emissions and green initiatives. Looking ahead, VPA aims to reach 90 MT this financial year and over 100 MT in the near future while transitioning to a landlord model by 2030. VPA’s transformation relies on collaboration with stakeholders, striving to make the port a leader in maritime services.
