In 2024-25, the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) demonstrated its ability to handle large and complex vessels, setting new benchmarks for the industry. Notable events during this period included the arrival of the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and the luxury cruise ship The World at the Visakhapatnam International Cruise Terminal. The port also achieved its first night-time berthing of M.V. Star Aspiration in the inner harbor, showcasing its operational capabilities.
A significant milestone for the VPA occurred on 25 July when the port successfully berthed MV Huahine, the largest cape-size vessel, with a record draft of 18.48 meters. This vessel was carrying 199,900 metric tons of manganese ore, highlighting the port’s capacity for handling large cargo shipments. Additionally, in November, MV Tonda and MSC Topaz, the largest container vessel at the Visakhapatnam Container Terminal, were berthed at EQ-10, showcasing the port’s versatility in handling different types of vessels.
Infrastructure upgrades, including draft enhancements up to 14.5 meters, have further improved the efficiency of the Visakhapatnam Port, solidifying its position as a leading maritime hub in the region. These developments have enabled the port to handle a diverse range of vessels and cargo types, enhancing its reputation as a key player in the maritime industry.
