The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has introduced an ambitious ₹384-crore initiative aimed at positioning itself as a net-zero maritime hub by 2047. This plan underscores a significant commitment to sustainability within the maritime sector.
A key element of this transformation is a substantial energy overhaul. The port is set to increase its solar energy capacity from 10MW to 30MW. This enhancement is intended to facilitate the complete mechanisation of all bulk material terminals, thereby improving operational efficiency.
To support this energy expansion, the port will implement a sophisticated Energy Management System (EMS). This system will incorporate 320 digital meters, enabling real-time monitoring and optimization of energy use across the port’s operations.
With these developments, Visakhapatnam Port is not only addressing its operational needs but also setting a benchmark in renewable energy utilization, having already achieved 100% renewable energy for its current requirements. This proactive approach positions the port as a leader in sustainable practices within the maritime industry.
