THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vizhinjam International Port is poised to enhance local tourism by allowing ship crew members to go ashore and visit nearby attractions. This initiative follows the port’s authorization from the Immigration Check Post (ICP), facilitating a significant influx of visitors.

With this new ‘shore leave’ policy, crew members from visiting vessels, including foreign nationals, can disembark while their ships handle cargo operations. They will have opportunities to explore popular destinations such as Kovalam and Shanghumugham Beach before returning to their respective vessels.

Officials from the Ports and Tourism departments are collaborating to devise a detailed tourism project that will offer guided city tours for the crew. This effort is anticipated to bolster tourism activities even further, especially as cruise ships are expected to start arriving at the port soon.
