Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Karan Adani of Adani Ports inaugurated the second phase of the Vizhinjam Port expansion on Saturday. This ambitious project, with an investment of ₹16,000 crores, aims to significantly enhance the port’s capacity and is seen as a vital upgrade to the nation’s maritime infrastructure.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the event, marking a pivotal moment for Kerala. Adani emphasized the importance of bipartisan support and political will in transforming Vizhinjam into a key maritime asset. The initiative exemplifies cooperative federalism, showcasing a unified commitment across political parties to advance Kerala’s long-term interests.
In its relatively short operational history, Vizhinjam has emerged as India’s fastest port to process one million TEUs, underscoring its increasing global relevance. With aspirations to become the largest and most technologically advanced transshipment port in the region, Vizhinjam is set to redefine operational benchmarks for Indian ports and enhance the overall efficiency of maritime trade in the country.
