The Vizhinjam International Port project in Kerala will enter its second phase on November 5, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan overseeing the launch. In a distinctive move, phases two, three, and four will be undertaken simultaneously, aiming for completion by December 2028.

This phase, developed by Adani Ports, involves an investment of ₹10,000–15,000 crore, marking the largest public-private partnership in Kerala’s history, with no financial burden on the state. The expansion is anticipated to significantly enhance Kerala’s economy and solidify Vizhinjam’s position as a prominent transshipment hub in South Asia.

Key developments include the construction of a 1,200-meter container berth, a one-kilometer approach channel, and enhanced container yard facilities. Additionally, a multipurpose berth, liquid berths, and considerable reclaimed land will be developed, increasing the port’s capacity to handle 4 million TEUs annually.

Comprehensive rail connectivity and improved road links will further bolster the port’s logistics framework, positioning it as a world-class hub in maritime trade and enhancing Kerala’s global shipping influence.
