ABS and the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at advancing the international standardization of smart ship and shipyard technologies. This initiative focuses on enhancing shipbuilding and maintenance practices.

The MOU outlines plans for joint workshops and seminars where both organizations will share insights to improve international standardization and simplify certification processes for Korean equipment manufacturers. Additionally, they will develop a conformity assessment framework to ensure that equipment meets various international regulations.

John McDonald, President and COO of ABS, emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing technical, operational, and regulatory issues. He expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with KATS and the potential to enhance efficiencies in smart technologies and equipment compliance.
