At Gastech 2025 in Milan, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) received approval in principle (AIP) from ABS for their design of a 16,000 TEU container ship featuring an electric propulsion system. This approval followed comprehensive design reviews by ABS, focusing on key elements such as power generation and propulsion motors.

Joshua Divin, ABS Senior Vice President of Marine Business Development, expressed pride in this milestone, emphasizing the collaboration between ABS, HD KSOE, and HD HHI to enhance electric applications in maritime technology. He highlighted the importance of safely integrating electric propulsion into large vessels.
