All 23 crew members of the Panama-flagged bulk carrier Run Fun 3 have been rescued after abandoning their sinking vessel in the Indian Ocean. The 172-meter ship, built in 1997, was en route from Singapore to Togo when it began taking on water due to flooding in the cargo hold.
The crew, consisting of 21 Vietnamese and two Myanmar nationals, escaped on life rafts and were subsequently rescued by another bulk carrier, Maple Harbour, managed by C Transport Maritime (CTM). The decision to abandon ship was made by the captain at 08:15 local time, as efforts to save the vessel proved unsuccessful.
The incident occurred approximately 500 nautical miles south of the Maldives, according to the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. After the rescue, Maple Harbour, owned by Hangang Global Shipping of South Korea, proceeded to Port Louis, Mauritius, where the crew of Run Fun 3 safely disembarked.
