On September 1, a collision occurred off the coast of Singapore between the bunker barge Marine Dynamo and the bulk carrier Flag Gangos. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported a minor fuel spill from the Marine Dynamo, which is expected to evaporate and dissipate naturally. Both vessels were deemed stable following the incident, which took place about five miles offshore near Tanah Merah at 0925 local time.
The Marine Dynamo, a hybrid electric barge launched in 2023 and operated by Chevron, reported a spill of Marine Gas Oil (MGO) used for propulsion. One crew member sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment onboard. The Flag Gangos, a Greek-owned vessel registered in Malta, was en route to Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka at the time of the collision.
The MPA deployed a patrol boat, spill response craft, and a drone to the scene. While there was no navigational safety impact reported, the MPA issued warnings to nearby vessels. Chevron indicated that insights gained from this incident would be valuable for the future operation of hybrid vessels.
