Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has classified the CMA CGM ANTIGONE, marking its first methanol-fueled containership. This 15,000 TEU vessel, constructed by CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard for the CMA CGM Group, was officially named on December 11 and delivered the following day.

CMA CGM ANTIGONE is the inaugural ship of the “Kun” series, featuring an overall length of 366 meters. This new generation of large container ships emphasizes operational efficiency while significantly minimizing environmental impact. Its methanol dual-fuel propulsion system notably reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and nearly eliminates sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions, aligning with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2030 emissions reduction targets.

Prior to the project’s launch, BV established a specialized team of gas-carrier and alternative-fuel experts to train surveyors and the client’s project team. BV collaborated closely with Jiangnan Shipyard during the design phase to enhance structural arrangements and fuel system integration, utilizing advanced simulation tools to ensure safety and manage weight.

In line with BV’s Rules for Methanol & Ethanol Fueled Ships, the organization conducted thorough technical reviews and risk assessments on critical design and safety aspects. During construction, BV surveyors implemented stringent monitoring and inspections, focusing on fire safety and explosion-proof systems to bolster the vessel’s overall safety.
