BIO-UV Group has partnered with MicroWISE to enhance ballast-water treatment and verification solutions, responding to increasing regulatory pressures and the anticipated rise in port-side reception facilities. This collaboration merges BIO-UV’s BIO-SEA ballast-water treatment technology with MicroWISE’s real-time organism analysis, creating a comprehensive approach to treatment and compliance validation.
The maritime industry faces challenges despite widespread installation of ballast-water management systems. Inspections reveal inconsistent performance and non-compliance with the D-2 discharge standard, prompting ports to explore dedicated treatment capabilities for non-compliant ballast water to alleviate congestion and delays.
MicroWISE’s biological monitoring technology allows for accurate detection of viable organisms, enabling compliance checks before water discharge. This integration will help BIO-UV deliver a ballast-water treatment solution that minimizes operational disruptions at ports.
The partnership also aims to advance research on sediment removal and flocculation processes, enhancing efficiency and reducing the footprint of port-side systems. With growing interest in onshore treatment solutions, the companies plan to continue their validation efforts into 2026, anticipating that integrated treatment technologies will be crucial for compliance as environmental regulations tighten.
