Alfa Laval Korea Ltd. has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hanwha Ocean Ecotech to enhance collaboration on ammonia fuel systems for dual-fuel vessels. This partnership combines Alfa Laval’s expertise in ammonia fuel technology with Hanwha’s marine engineering capabilities, aiming to capitalize on emerging market opportunities in alternative marine fuels.
The agreement focuses on co-developing business ventures and projects, with plans to deliver a pilot installation that paves the way for future collaborations. Both companies share a commitment to advancing ammonia fuel systems, with Alfa Laval providing its established ammonia supply systems and mitigation technologies, while Hanwha contributes its extensive system integration experience.
Alfa Laval is also involved in various other ammonia fuel initiatives, including a long-term research partnership with WinGD that has successfully tested the FCM Ammonia and related technologies, laying the groundwork for commercial deployment. Additionally, a collaboration with K Shipbuilding, WinGD, and the American Bureau of Shipping has seen Alfa Laval design a comprehensive fuel system that includes an ammonia dual-fuel boiler, further solidifying its role in the evolving marine fuel landscape.
