The Guernsey community has rallied together to support the owner of a fishing boat, ‘Wild Wave,’ which sank off Sark’s west coast this week. In a remarkable show of solidarity, locals raised thousands of pounds within hours of the incident. The boat sank on Tuesday, but fortunately, the owner was rescued without serious injuries, although he faces a lengthy period before returning to work.

A friend of the owner launched a fundraising campaign on Thursday, and by Friday morning, contributions had exceeded £12,500, far surpassing the initial goal of £10,000. The fundraising page was hosted on JustGiving, reflecting the community’s generosity and commitment to helping one of their own.

The owner was saved from the water by the crew of the Paloma, operated by Isle Maritime, following a “freak accident” that led to the sinking of ‘Wild Wave.’ Josh Le Cras, who initiated the fundraiser, emphasized that despite being relatively new to commercial fishing, the owner, Michael, has made a significant impact on Guernsey’s fishing community. He had been using ‘Wild Wave’ to support his young family, underscoring the personal stakes involved in this unfortunate event.
