Cool Carriers, the leading operator of specialized reefer vessels, is expanding its fleet with seven new Type Reefer Carriers from Kitanihon Shipbuilding in Japan. The first vessel, Snow Flower, was delivered on March 4. Each ship is designed to transport 5,000 high-cube pallets of perishable fruit and up to 168 reefer containers, cruising at 18 knots. The fleet will feature two vessels with over 630,000 cubic feet capacity and five with 660,000 cubic feet.
These vessels, named after the company’s esteemed Snow-class ships, will adhere to modern hull and propulsion designs, incorporating energy-efficient engines that meet stringent environmental regulations through 2030. The deliveries are scheduled from March 2026 to 2028 as part of Cool Carriers’ fleet renewal strategy, enhancing its competitiveness in the reefer market.
With this order, Cool Carriers will have a total of seven vessels on order, significantly boosting its reefer capacity to accommodate up to 14,000 pallets combined. The company services key global trade routes, including exports from New Zealand, Chile, Ecuador, South Africa, and Argentina, playing a crucial role in maintaining resilient food supply chains. COO Glenn Selling emphasized that the new vessels are specifically designed for high-cube cargo, marking a significant advancement in the specialized reefer industry.
