Denmark’s maritime authority detained an Iran-flagged container vessel, named “Nora,” for not being properly registered. Initially sailing under the Comoros flag, the Comoros government informed Denmark that the vessel was not listed in its registry. The Danish authority stated that the ship will remain detained until a flag state can prove its registration and certification, and a port state inspection is conducted.
Following the inspection, the Danish authority reported no significant safety deficiencies. The vessel, which recently changed its flag from Comoros to Iran, shares the same International Maritime Organization (IMO) number as a former container ship, CERUS, listed under U.S. Treasury sanctions. This connection raises concerns, as the CERUS is associated with Argun Shipping Inc. and Reel Shipping LLC.
The “Nora” has been idle for the past 25 days, according to reports from Danish broadcaster TV2. The situation highlights ongoing scrutiny over maritime activities linked to Iran and the enforcement of international sanctions.
