Everllence has introduced its new dual-fuel ME-LGIA engine, designed for ammonia use. This engine builds on the principles of the Diesel engine and incorporates a dual-fuel liquid gas injection system similar to Everllence’s existing ME-LGIM and ME-LGIP models, which utilize methanol and LPG. Due to ammonia’s unique properties, the ME-LGIA features enhanced safety measures, including containment systems, sensors, ventilation, and double-walled piping.

The first ME-LGIA engine is set for delivery in Q1 2026, with bedding-in scheduled for Q4 2025. Everllence is currently involved in pilot projects for two large ammonia carriers for Eastern Pacific Shipping, four engines for Höegh Autoliner, and one for a bulk carrier in Japan, where testing is ongoing at MITSUI E&S.

This engine facilitates secure data transmission from vessels to Everllence’s shore-based monitoring, enabling real-time performance insights, remote assistance, and enhanced operational efficiency, crucial for decarbonization efforts as ammonia becomes more prevalent in the market. The initial sales release will include various bore sizes, with retrofit options planned for the future.

Bjarne Foldager, Head of Two-Stroke Business at Everllence, emphasized the technological significance of the ME-LGIA, highlighting over 150,000 hours of development and extensive safety testing in collaboration with authorities. The focus on safety and operational data aims to establish a market standard for ammonia engines.
