The commission has highlighted that the ongoing revision plays a significant role in advancing the European Ocean Pact, emphasizing the importance of ocean preservation and sustainable management alongside existing maritime and fisheries regulations. This initiative aims to promote a more coordinated effort in handling ocean-related issues.

In conjunction with this revision, the commission is preparing the European Ocean Act, which is intended to foster a comprehensive approach to ocean governance. This coordinated effort underscores the necessity for a unified strategy that addresses the complexities of managing marine resources sustainably.

To gather input from the public, a separate call for evidence and a consultation regarding the European Ocean Act is scheduled for early 2026. This will allow stakeholders and the general public to contribute their perspectives and insights on the proposed legislation.
