Denmark’s Christiania Gas is actively trying to communicate with the pirates who abducted nine crew members from its LPG tanker, the CGas Saturn, in the Gulf of Guinea last week. The company stated that it is making every effort to reach those holding the seafarers to ensure their safe and prompt release.

The incident occurred on December 3 when pirates attacked the Portugal-flagged CGas Saturn, a 3,090-dwt vessel built in 2003. Following the assault, four crew members remained on board and successfully navigated the tanker to a secure port in West Africa. One of these crew members sustained injuries during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment at an onshore hospital.

Christiania Gas expressed deep concern over the situation and confirmed that it is collaborating with international authorities and experts. The company is also providing support to the families of the abducted seafarers during this challenging time. However, it emphasized that it would not disclose further information to avoid compromising the safety of the crew, urging respect for this decision.
