A tragic incident unfolded at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Johor, Malaysia, where a fire on the MSC Kyparissia container ship resulted in the deaths of three crew members and left three others critically injured. The fire broke out in the under-hatch section of Block 5 while the vessel was unloading containers. Emergency services were alerted at 12:33 PM on November 7, 2025, and firefighters arrived on the scene within seven minutes.
Among the deceased were a 59-year-old Malaysian, a Filipino man in his 40s, and a British crew member, also in his 40s. The injured included a 26-year-old Malaysian and two Filipino men in their 40s, all of whom were promptly taken to a private hospital for medical care. The firefighting efforts were coordinated by the PTP Fire and Rescue Team, assisted by two tugboats.
As of the latest reports, the fire has been brought under control, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. Authorities are focusing on ensuring safety measures are reviewed to prevent future occurrences.
